Starting a fresh...

Getting my feet wet

Ok,

So gotworms.co.uk has been offline for a while now. I know I put up some index a while ago which said something along the lines of ‘I was doing my own thing’ but still after a year and a half things still had not moved on.

So what happend?

Well some little pissant decided to use my blog, which was running a version of Drupal that was vulnerable to some RPC attacks to compromise the server on which it was running. Since it was a shared server with other people, I thought this mighty unsporting, and thought ...

Prepping for Mardi Gras

No I'm not superficial... I'm speshul!

Lukas yesterday informed me that he would be in Cardiff for Mardi Gras today, and me not having met the little git decided to go… Plus i’ve not been to Mardi Gras for at least 4 years so I thought I might make the trip.

So the photographer in me is literally itching to get out there and start snapping away, however the boyscout in me is currently keeping the photographer in check, because it’s a little difficult to be a photographer when your digicam says Battery Low then dies.

So I’m currently sitting around waiting for ...

I'm such a stupid cunt

What not to do when you meet someone nice at Mardi Gras

Picture the scene: Mardi Gras, Cardiff, Approx 7pm.

Pissed as a fart, wittering on randomly to mates in a pub when some random cute guy turns around and gives you “the eyes”. Your good friend cunningly invites the guy into the conversation by showing interest in the university scarf that the guy is wearing… So you discover the guy used to goto Cardiff uni, and used to study Theology and things progress from there… Discussions about transubstantiation and the theology thereof follow, and then degrade into smaller less inflamatory subjects.

The jist: I like the guy.

A tryst of sorts ...

Brain drain

Hangover or something else?

Ya know, I’m really rusty with this blogging shit.

I’ve not done it in ages and am finding it difficult to express what’s on my mind. I’ve already re-written the start of this post a few times and I’m wondering what, if anything is the reason for this.

I don’t know what’s happening with me of late. I’ve got this wierd sleep thing happening, where I either have too much sleep (like 14 hours) or barely get any sleep at all. I’m getting headaches again, and I just generally don’t ...

"Please tell me you're joking!"

For gods sake get off the road

With my upcoming move to Mallorca, I decided to finish off learning to driving properly and for the past month and a half I’ve spent an inordinate amount of money doing so.

I would have posted this yesterday had I not collapsed after much drinking and curry with the parentals.

So yes… Well I passed my practical test yesterday so am now licensed to run people over drive on the road.

New look...

... same tiger, different stripes

Decided to update the design a bit becuase the old one was a bit clunky and felt as if I had bolted bits on, which in essence is the truth. I had come accross bits I wanted to present, but didn’t have any means to present them properly on the old design, so had to hack bits into it.

I’ve now updated it at bit.

I’m almost there with the feeds, comments and registration stuffs.

Anyway… I think it looks alright… a little dark maybe, but not too bad.

In other news, having passed my test, I ...

Upside-down-Ternet

... how to deal with someone stealing your internet

RobL seems to have discovered a method for pissing off those that steal your internet access.

Upside-Down-Ternet is an absolutely beautiful usage of open source technology in order to piss people off.

Gary Kremen vs. ARIN

Some people just take the biscuit

It seems the sex.com guy is at it again, only this time he’s being a twat.

Basically he’s after the Netblocks and ASNs that his esteemed colleague Mr M. Cohen has and uses claiming that they are of sizable value in the market place.

What a twat. Just because the membership fees are factored into the assets owned by a company, doesn’t mean that the netblocks are valueable.

Please someone, Darwinise the cunt?

So I guess you're wondering where I've been...

... well probably not, but I'm going to tell you anyway bitches

I’ve moved!

YAY ME!

I’ve moved to Mallorca for a job playing with funky technology in a really funky environment.

The funny thing is that my boss put me up temporarily in gay hotel. It’s a bit loud and grotty, but it’s a roof over my head, and it’s cheap, considering I’m paying for it for the moment. Sadly there’s a distinct lack of totty.

I’m due to go find someplace to rent tomorrow or Monday, and I’ll be going out wandering with a Camera tomorrow, so there’ll be plenty ...

Oh god I think I broke my brain

And not in a good way!

Now before we get started with the owie and self pitty, lemme get one thing straight!

I paid for this hangover so I earned the right to moan.

Yes, I appear to have paid the price for drinking heavily again.

Yesterday, I met a new friend I’ve been speaking to for some time now, since the inevitable move to Spain, I decided a pre-emptive friend searching policy was in order. Last night was the first time for me to meet a new friend in Palma. We decided on drinks and food.

The drinks got started, and me being a ...

Django modeling crazyness

Growl - sometimes I hate frameworks...

Django is a real breath of fresh air sometimes. Then again, sometimes it can be a pain in the arse.

Django has been written so that it’s really quite flexible in terms of development and RAD. I can put an application together in relativly little time in terms of administration and templating, although it’s modeling is somewhat rigid. As it has a somewhat loose adherance to the MVC pattern, it currently has no way of linking variables outside of the model to the model itself.

This is good in principal, although it should be flexible enough to allow ...

Cisco serial debugging woes

not helped by shitty satellite terminals

I’ve had enough. I’m going to petition Cisco to start providing some more debugging information when trying to get Serial interfaces working.

Picture the scene: a lovely super yacht which has installed on it a satellite terminal and dome which connects it to the rest of the world. That terminal has a serial interface on for connection to a modem or computer equipment. Take one Cisco Router with a WIC-2AS interface in it.

Now the satellite terminal and documentation is appauling. As documentation goes, it’s amoung some of the most contrived and vague documents concerning something ...

Guide to reading documentation

... or more to the point, how not to write documentation

Well it appears as if I’ve made some slight progress on this satellite issue.

It appears that the satellite terminal currently in use uses a really obscure cable serial standard.

The frustrating thing is, that in the documentation, the only mention of this obscure standard in relation to using it with non-PC equipment is a footnote at the bottom of the page which says something along the lines of “Yeah if you’re using this terminal with something other than the kit provided, then you need to use the RS-530 serial transmission cable standard.”

That’s it. It was ...
