my, my, my...

[laurie]‘s lovely…

We spent the weekend together, and I’ve never felt so close to someone so quickly before… it’s frightening, but the commonalities are numerous…

Anyway, I’m not going to be broadcasting the ups and downs this time… I like him too much…

Suffice to say, I hope he’ll be visiting again :P

Fscking Excellent!

Brilliant…

I’ve found it! At last!

This is a really facinating project. Although it's built in .Net (something that of late has been a minor annoyance) it's a really well built application.

Bascially, it takes your WebLog, TopicMap and Wiki concepts and combines them into one big project on it’s own.

Excellent idea! I’ve been wanting to do something similar for aaaages, simply because I think the idea of a team of people blogging away, and having all the interrelations, content links and mapping done for you is a brilliant idea… Think about this sort ...

Meh, stupid fscking americans

I apologise in advance to the intelligent Americans out there reading this (poor excuse) for a blog for the comments I am about to make.
America is pissing me off…. Americans as a nation are pissing me off…

Why?

Oh, nothing major really, just the general thought of the month at the moment. For a start, there’s George W Bush. America, you should be ashamed of yourself, letting this bible-humping, (no not a typo, since the majority of bible bashers tend to make love to their bibles not thump them) inbred-hick of a two-bit-jumped-up-stupid-good-for-nothing fuckwit control a country.
You ...

Bid!! BID!!!

[nat] got bless him, has decided to auction off his tire…

This is the auction in question. It's always fun to see what people will auction, and even funnier to see what people will bid on... Remember the Bucket of Water, 24 Kids, the kidney, Elvis's Tooth, Lunch with an investment guru, Bridgeville California, the 18-year old's virginity and more...

Wierd!

Social networking at it's best

Okay, so last night the guy’s on the Lipex irc channel were wittering on about this orkut thing last night, and I got dragged into it.

And now that i’ve had a play, it’s working out to be an excellent idea in social networking.

Anyway, if I know you and your looking to expand your social network or be a severe dweeb (as I am), then give me a buzz :)

Introspection hurts...

Okay, well I’m in a bad mood now.

My own fault really…but was just something [laurie] pointed out to me in an email.

To quote:

There's no excuse for not knowing what's going on in the wider world; it affects you loads... for example, the current fashion for privacy-intruding technology in government is a consequence of the wider political climate -- if you're going to argue against such technologies, you need to be able to argue on the same wavelength, or no one will take you seriously.

And ya know what? He’s damn right… I ...

Wierdness

Okay, enough shite for one day…

Firebird rawks… it truly does… but it doesn’t like this site from some reason. For those of you in FireBird, fire up IE and look at this site. Spot the difference?

Yeah… looks cool, however that was an undesired effect.

Soooooo Athena’s going to be getting a bit more work done on her tonight.

Incidentally, I’m feeling creative…

woohoo!

Someone found rainbow and it’s doing the net-rounds:

Total KBytes: 25,589,560

25Gig!? Arse

This could be expensive… Might need to move it someplace else :(

Posted by Richard on Thu February 5th 2004 at 11:46 p.m. |

Friday February 6th2004

Moved

If your looking for rainbow then you’ll need to go here (http://www.crazygreek.co.uk/rainbow.mpeg), otherwise the amount of bandwidth you people are consuming is going to cost me a fortune!

Lots of thankies and hugs to [theo] and Associated Networks for donating some bandwidth:) You guy’s rawk!

Finally a [religion] I can believe in

I hate religion.

Mainly because people tend to mourn their faith in their respective religions instead of celebrating it.

However, I could definatly be seen to understand this religion.

Well you've had it now...

Okay so the cross linking has pissed me off now.

You guy’s out there who are LINKING to my copy of rainbow are fuckers. Your sad pathetic loosers who need a bit of education in common sense and fair play.

If your going to post a link to some funny content or some such, then copy it locally to your server instead of fobbing the bandwidth bill over to someone else.

It’s not on. 40Mbit/s is alot of bandwidth… someone has to pay…

Next time I find some funnies, I shall be implementing appropriate measures to stop ...

Wooo Yay!

Went out Friday night with [laurie] and [mikey] to popstarz…. Twas a good night, and I never thought that indie could actually be "mixed" but apparently it can. A good night out tho… and I probably made a complete tit out of myself but Oh well…

I am a fool.

Okay, you can slap me later…

I forgot to attribute rainbow to [maxeh] the person I got it off (and incidentally, the person I downloaded and saved the file locally of in order to save him bandwidth, unlike the rest of you leaches! calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean, calm blue ocean).

maxeh’s one of the folks over at burstfire.net go give them a whirl!

Spoilt Brats'r'Us!

Well, when the majority of us sane people have a tantrum, we usually storm about, damage a thing or two, or like me… pout untill the cows come home.

However, in an impressive display of homosexuality (and let’s face it, this guy couldn’t get any more gay), The Times have covered a story where a 17 year has a temper tantrum and goes on a bender in Rome!

Here are the Highlights that I was pissing myself laughing over:

  • Toms father, a 100,000-a-year investment banker, is believed to have called his son "a little s**t ...

Royal Mail Suck teh Donkey!

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again. Privatisation of the post office was not a good idea. They’ll strike, they’ll complain, they’ll delay mail… and what look happens…

It turns out that the reason I’ve not had mail for the past week or so is because the Royal Mail Post Man lost the key to the external door at my flat complex. Charming.

So instead of writing a note someplace I have to phone and enquire why my oystercard hasn’t been delivered yet, even though it was sent First Class!

History Lesson

Bit of history/entertainment for you!

[Richard’s Note: I originally was criticised by [laurie] over lunch for posting this shit since it was wrong. so the perfectionist in me has checked the facts.]

  • Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
  • John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
  • Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
  • John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.
  • Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
  • Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
  • Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Stuck at home :/

Well I’ve been stuck at home all day thus far. Which is a pain in the ass.

First of all the maintainance guy calls at like 8:30 to ask if he can come at an earlier time since he’s had a slot open up and would like to come at 10:00am now… So I say yes and call into work to let them know.

Okay, so 10:00am rolls around… 10:30am, 11:00am and finally at around 11:20am the guy turns up.

0x80005000

The BANE of my existance at the moment.

You may be wondering what I’m prattling on about, so I’ll tell you.

This fairly innocent looking hexidecimal number is the error code being returned by the .Net Directory Services Namespace.

Now you may at this point think "Oh quit whining and find the problem"... Which is exactly the problem. Because I cannot for the life of me find the problem. The error Message associated with this number is also equally cryptic: "Unknown Error". Which basically means Microsoft don’t know what the fuck went wrong. In other words: it ...

And now for some truely frightening news...

Apparently there are roumours floating about that the Windows 2000 Source Code has been leaked.

If this is true, then brace yourselves and lock down your windows machines since I foresee a spate of security flaws being exploited in some form or other…

The Microsoft Security Team better start patching if it is true…

Okay, maybe I was a tad harsh...

In my comments a fe days ago I called for a summary execution of Bill Thompson.

However I’d like to roll that down to a severe occasional beating following his latest article. The guy’s right on the dot for a change.

The general knowledge level of computing in our world today is appauling, and this includes technical correspondants in the media. They simply don’t know what is what, and inaccurate simplifications and misleading explainations will only lead to the public not knowing whether their coming or going, and this is a problem.

People should understand the basic ...

Brain usage (Yes I have one)

Your Brain Usage Profile
Auditory : 53%
Visual : 46%
Left : 58%
Right : 41%

This is an amazingly accurate summary of how I work...:
Richard, you are mildly left-hemisphere dominant while showing a slight preference for auditory processing. This overall combination seems to indicate a well-working blend of logic and judgment and organization, with sufficient intuition, perception and creativity to balance that dominance.

You will at times experience conflict between how you feel and what you think which will generally be resolved in favor of what you think. You will find yourself interested in the practical applications of whatever material you have ...

Recipie for a tasty evening!

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 rashers of bacon
  • 2 Waitrose Specialty Sausages (I used the Paprika variety)
  • 1 Small Onion
  • a handful of button mushrooms
  • Cheese!

Method:
Put the sausages under a grill.
Put the bacon into a headed frying pan (no oil, the bacon will leak oil and you can cook it in it’s own juices… mmmm). Once slightly browned, take out and put to one side (on a plate preferably).
Peel and chop the onions, and slice the mushrooms thinly, and put a bit of oil in the pan and fry untill the onions are all floppy. Take ...
